About Me
Dr Mataji Kennedy
Clinical Psychologist
Let me tell you how I work so you can decide if this will be a good fit for you.
I specialise in working with adults and young adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety, grief, stress, and those who have a history of complex trauma.
I also enjoy working with people who are on the spectrum, have ADHD or have struggles with addiction.
I believe there is no one-size-fits-all therapeutic approach. I tailor an approach to your particular issues drawing on formal training in:
Formal training is important but I believe the strength of the therapeutic relationship is key to the success of treatment. I have a natural curiosity and interest in hearing your story and understanding the factors that have shaped who you are today.
My style is to provide a comfortable and safe environment for you to talk openly, share freely. In turn I like to help you make connections between your past and present, and to make sense of the patterns in your life and the reasons you behave the way you do.
Reflection is a crucial part of change, and is a key part of the therapeutic process.
If that sounds like an approach that interests you, please book a session using the link below.

I have more than 20 years of experience in private practice in Sydney, Noosa, and other therapeutic settings.
Before a career in psychology, I worked in corporate and consulting roles in a variety of industries in Australia and overseas.
I’m an advocate for personal growth and self-development and engage in regular supervision and therapy so I can offer you the best of me in the counselling space.
When not at the practice I spend time with my partner, two teenage girls and three cats! I love the Noosa area and enjoy swimming, running, walking, reading and spending time with friends.

It can be daunting to attend an appointment for the first time. Most people feel nervous initially but this passes. It is helpful to talk to a professional about what is bothering you, you’ll probably feel some relief from just starting the process.
In the first session, I’ll ask you a number of questions about why you are presenting, your background and your current life.
In subsequent sessions, we begin the process of treatment which is tailored to your situation and will vary from person to person.
-
Yes, all information discussed in the session remains confidential.
The only exception to this is if it is perceived that you are at a risk to yourself or someone else, or my notes are subpoenaed for court purposes.
-
Session notes and reports are stored on an online system called Power Diary which uses technology certified at the highest global security standards for healthcare data.
-
I work with adults and young adults 16 years plus. I don’t work with children and families.

There are several ways you can receive a rebate to help you manage the cost.
Your GP or a Psychiatrist can refer you and provide you with a Mental Health Care Plan under Medicare. This will enable you to receive a rebate of $141.85 per session, for 10 sessions in a calendar year.
This rebate is available for Face to Face and Telehealth sessions.
If you are in a private health fund, some funds also provide rebates for psychological sessions. You would need to speak to your fund to check.
For any one session, you can only use Medicare or Private Health but not both.
-
We can process your rebate via Medicare after the session. It normally arrives in your bank account within 48 hours. You just need to ensure Medicare has your correct bank details for rebates.
For private health rebates we can provide you a receipt for your session which you can send to your health fund for a reimbursement.
